Cornwall Tourism Awards 2018

10th November 2018

It was a fantastic evening for Polmanter and other St Ives businesses at the Cornwall Tourism Awards on 1 November. We’re delighted to let you know that we won the Touring Camping And Caravanning Category for the second year in a row!

We’re a bit late with the news (we’ve been on holiday ourselves!), and so thanks to our guests and friends who’ve already been in touch to congratulate us. It’s a wonderful way of recognising all the hard work and commitment of our fabulous team, who go out of their way every single day to ensure that our guests have the best holiday.

Phill and I missed the awards ceremony at Truro Cathedral, so the Polmanter table was taken by assistant manager Jon, receptionists Rhea and Vicky, head chef John, and groundsman and Friday night vocalist Gareth. They reported back very favourably on the venue, light show – and catering! It was the largest-ever celebration of Cornish tourism, with almost 400 guests watching 80 awards being won

Polmanter wasn’t the only St Ives winner. Carbis Bay Hotel scooped an impressive four awards, including Gold for Large Hotel again; and lovely Boskerris Hotel won joint Gold for Small Hotel.

We were also really pleased when St Ives’s Cohort Hostel won Gold for Tourism Innovation, as we love their can-do attitude, which has resulted in a brilliant-quality budget accommodation option.

Leach Pottery, which is just down the road from us, won Bronze in the Small Visitor Attraction category. (If you’ve never been, go. Both the exhibition and the hands-on classes are excellent.)

What happens next? Polmanter and the other winners will be fast-tracked to the South West Tourism Excellence Awards early next year. The next ceremony will be held at Aerospace Bristol in February 2019. From a cathedral to Concorde: we love the diversity of tourism venues in this region!

We’re very excited to have made it through to the next stage again, and absolutely delighted to be recognised for our commitment to Cornwall as a tourism hub. To be sharing this with our St Ives peers makes it even better.

We’ll let you know…
